Feature and Follow Friday 9/30/11

Welcome to Follow Friday hosted this week by Parajunkee and Alison!

The main idea behind FF is just to go see a bunch of new blogs you may never have seen before, and follow the ones you like (and they’ll follow you back!) It’s a total win/win. Post your link i

This week’s question is:

What book that hasn't been turned into a movie (yet) would you most like to see on the big screen, and who would you like cast as your favorite character?

This is a really tough question, because I usually don't like the movie version that much when books are turned into movies, but maybe if I would be able to choose the actors, I'd like them better.

I have a lot of books that I really love that I don't think would make a good movie because of their length, or the complicated subject matter. I think in order for a movie based on a book to be successful, the book has to be short, or there has to be multiple movies per book so nothing is lost.  Also, the books I tend to like the most have a lot of inner diologue and unless, the movie has a running narrative you lose a lot of the oftentimes important and enlightening thoughts the character has.
The Shadow of the Wind

So, I am going to choose The Shadow of the Wind  by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. My favorite character is Julián but I am not sure who I would want to play him. I will have to think on that for a while.

  1. I totally agree with you on the inner dialogue. It's very difficult to really make the book version justice if you can't show the character as he really is, and sometimes the movies can't show how the character really is, with all their layers. I usually have a problem with some actors playing my favorite characters.

  5. Hi! I just became a follower! I really like your choice for this question, although I have yet to read the book. However, I have read several positive reviews of it, and the synopsis sounds VERY fascinating! Besides, seeing a movie about books would be entirely AWESOME.

I also like that you mentioned you prefer books that have "a lot of inner dialogue". I, too, prefer such books, and wish that they would lend themselves better to the film medium.

    Here's my FF post:

  6. yay! That book is on my NYR/11 list. I'm glad to see someone enjoyed it... and that it's reletively shorter than the War and Peace/Gone With The Wind giants I have to finish.
    Thanks for stopping by!
